Ken Griffey Jr. began his career with the Seattle Mariners Baseball Club in 1989. He went on to have one of the greatest careers of any Power Hitter in Major League History. On October 4th, 2009...Ken Griffey Jr. walked off the field with his Mariners Teammates for what may be the last time. I get teary eyed just thinking about all the memories and all the glory Griffey brought with him to Seattle.
Always the iconic Mariner, even with his 9 years of exile in Cincinnati and Chicago, Griffey came back and remade almost singlehandedly this Ball Club. His emotional presence helped lift away the facade of failure and frustration. His Leadership helped team the young Mariners about what it means to be a professional Baseball Player. Ken Griffey Jr. truly is an American Hero.
One of the last of his kind, a pure Power hitter free of the Roids that have ravaged this league like a virus over the last several years. He is my Hero, someone i have looked up to since i was a little boy. I remember his infectious smile, his Pearly White teeth always gleaming in Center Field, his ever Smooth swing sending line drives and long bombs over the outfield wall with precision like a laser guided Missile. The announcers sound of "Ken!...Griffey!...Jr.!" will forever fill my ears as i reminisce about those loud nights in the Kingdome.
I have one last plea to make, Please come back Griffey, come back one more year. Make one last full throttle run at Willie Mays, Try to move into 3rd place all time on the home run list(Barry Bonds does not count). You owe it to yourself to see if you can have one last Season for the ages in the tank, Go Get em Griffey!
